I came to Ohio by way of Southern California. I got my love of deep-sea fishes from working in natural history collections throughout my career. My research aims to develop deep-sea fishes as a new model system for understanding macroevolution and processes of diversification. Towards this end, our lab integrates phylogenomics, phylogenetic comparative methods, morphometrics, data science and biogeography, all powered by museum collections.

I am broadly interested in comparative morphology and physiology of vertebrates, in particular fishes. I enjoy studying and investigating how the nervous system evolves in different groups with unique physiologies and behaviors to allow these organisms to thrive in their respective environments. In the Santos Lab, I am using diceCT to non-invasively examine the neuromorphology of deep-sea fishes.
